Web hosting plans and their relationship with Control Panels
A web hosting control panel is a graphic online
interface that allow customers to access and administer their web hosting
services. It allows easy access to functions such as file managers,
scripting languages, domain aliases, etc. Web hosting providers sometimes
develop their propietary interfaces, but there are standard options as well. The
two key players in the control panel sector are Cpanel and Helm.

Before continuing with our discussions of web hosting
control panels let us offer some help. If after
you order a website hosting plan you cannot make it
work as you would like, just
drop us an email and we will help with the setup and configuration for FREE!!!
Cpanel is the
de-facto standard for hosting plans running on top of Linux architectures. Its
interface is shown in the picture below. Most of the Linux Hosting plans
actually offered in the market are using Cpanel as it control panel. This means
that wherever you see a Cpanel control panel, you are dealing with Linux
hosting. This also means that you will not be able to use asp.net technologies
in your website.
Our experience with Cpanel varies depending on the version
being offered by the hosting service provider. If it is running below
version 9.0 then you will encounter many issues while trying to do routine tasks
for maintaining your web pages and hosting environment. Above version 9.0 it is
more reliable and you will feel more comfortable working with it.
Helm is the
de-facto standard for hosting plans running on top of Microsoft Windows architectures.
Its interface is shown in the picture below. Wherever you see a Helm Control
Panel in a web hosting plan, know that the plan is based on windows hosting.
This type of hosting opens the door to an array of technologies such as asp,
asp.net, ajax and silverlight.

Any version of Helm will prove useful for the user. It is
really simple to use and navigate.
